As of September 2022, multinational retailer Walmart mandates all its suppliers to have new RFID tags on merchandise in stores. All suppliers of home goods, sporting goods, toys, and electronics for Walmart will need to be tagged with RFID. In the future, there may be plans to extend the RFID requirement to other departments for better results if the mandate is successful. Other large US retail companies including Macy’s, Nordstrom, Belk, and Dillard’s, have also made RFID tagging a requirement for a vast majority of their inventory.
