TEKLYNX Donates LABEL MATRIX 8 Label Design Software to the University of Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla.May 22, 2007 – TEKLYNX® International, the world’s leading developer of software products for the AIDC marketplace, has donated its LABEL MATRIX® 8 label design and printing software to the University of Florida for use in the Computer Tools for Packaging course in the Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) department. The software enables students to use the latest in labeling software on projects that simulate real-world packaging and food safety projects.

TEKLYNX’ $10,000 software donation includes a 25-license networked system for a computer lab classroom and five additional licenses for faculty use and in other learning environments. This latest software updates an earlier version of LABEL MATRIX that was previously granted to the university.

The LABEL MATRIX 8 software was immediately implemented and integrated into the Packaging course. “The course objective is to make sure that students have key skills that will make them effective in a package design role,” explained Bruce Welt Ph.D., University of Florida ABE associate professor. “It exposes them to mainstream relational database, labeling, design, presentation and packaging-specific applications. The beauty of LABEL MATRIX is that it accesses the database and they can use its advanced features to really see the power of the database in labeling food products.”

The advanced level course, which is open to undergraduate juniors and seniors, as well as graduate degree candidates, requires students to build a food product relational database. They then access the database to create consumer packaging and pallet-level label designs with fields that include warehouse/distribution management and consumer information, as well as required Food & Drug Administration fields. The course demonstrates the latest food package labeling techniques, including the use of emerging Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags.

"We are pleased to support the University of Florida with this donation,” said Joe Page, channel sales manager, TEKLYNX. “There’s a lot happening in the industry right now and it’s important that these students have the very best labeling product at their disposal to simulate what’s happening outside the classroom."
