Objective/Requirements:
A consumer goods company wanted to centralize the management of its labeling process for over 8,000 label formats for products produced in over 50 facilities worldwide that were printed in several languages. It wanted to develop a system that uses a database to store the language-specific text, as well as item attributes, in order to reduce the complexity of the process and maintain control. Yet, it required that each product continue to have its own label file so the label design artist could control field placement and format.
Solution:
TEKLYNX Professional Services developed a worldwide label printing solution using CODESOFT® label design software that accesses SQL Server databases and label file templates from a document management server. The system has multiple user privilege designations including administrator, designer and translator. Workstations with CODESOFT print-only licenses are deployed to the production areas.
The database lists all of the product attributes that can be selected for the label. The designer paints each field on the label for each language-specific description of the product that is available as a text field. This method allows the most precise placement of fields. Label processing takes place using the company’s worldwide Wide Area Network (WAN) and the Internet. Label routing and approval are managed through the company’s document management system.
