Objective/Requirements:
An industrial marking company requested a printing operation that enables labels to be printed on demand by an operator with all relevant label information stored in a local database. The operator must be able to select all variables from drop down lists. The system must offer various label sizes and the label format must be dynamically assigned based on part, size and customer.
Solution:
TEKLYNX Professional Services developed a label printing solution using LABELVIEW™ 7 Gold label design software that meets all of the requested features. Operators can print labels on demand. The local database contains part number, customer, and label size information that is presented in easy-to-use drop down menus.
The operator selects a part number from a drop down list. The system retrieves the label sizes (up to five) on which this part number may be printed. The operator selects a label size and then the customer number from drop down lists. Additional fields allow free-form data entry, such as expiration date or batch number, based on the customer. The label format file is determined by the label size and customer combination. The operator selects a printer from a drop down list and the number of copies required. Password protected administrator-level privileges allow an operator to edit the database of items, customers and label sizes.
