Objective/Requirements:
A food processing company required an application that would have an easy-to-use interface for printing, along with a Microsoft Access database management interface. However, the customer wanted all new or changed records to be reviewed and approved before acceptance.
Solution:
TEKLYNX Professional Services developed a LABELVIEW label design and printing software application to provide a simple user interface for printing. It also allowed first-level users to modify the Access database through the LABELVIEW interface.
The modified or added records are not recorded in the master database but are moved to an approval table in the database instead. The approval table can only be accessed by second-level users with rights to approve records. In the approval screen, second-level users see all of the original records along with the proposed changes that are waiting for approval. Once approved, the new record is copied into the master database; a history table is also updated with the part number and the changes (a comparison of the new and old). The database also reflects the date/time and the user name of the person approving the record.
