ELECTRONIC SCALE VERIFIES PARTS/ADDS WEIGHT TO LABEL

Objective/Requirements:
A manufacturer was looking for an application that would interact with an electronic scale. The readings from the scale, coupled with information from a database, would be combined to produce a label with weight information. The customer also wanted to use the weight function as a quality check to make sure, based on weight, that the correct parts were being weighed and to see if the correct quantity was packaged.

Solution:
TEKLYNX Professional Services developed an automated LABELVIEW label design and printing application. An operator uses a scanner to scan a barcode or selects a part number from a list, and LABELVIEW passes the target weight to the weight scale and then monitors for a response. The scale then passes back the actual weight to LABELVIEW which combines the results with information from a database to a label format for printing. If the scale reads a bad weight, the scale will send an error code to the application and no label will be printed. LABELVIEW continues to accept information from the scanner until the application is stopped and a new part number is selected.

Application Solution using LABELVIEW:
  • Allows data from a peripheral to be combined with database fields
  • Provides actual weights for shipping
  • Performs quality check to ensure proper parts/quantities are being packaged
