Common software key questions

  • What is a software key?
    A software key protects the product license the same way a hardware key or dongle does. However, with a software key you no longer need to attach a dongle to your PC.

  • What are the advantages of software keyed products?
    • No hardware problems to worry about
    • No need to use a port on your PC
    • Easier to use on laptops

  • How do I install the software key version?
    You would install the product the same way you install the hardware key version. When you launch the product you will be prompted to Activate or Try (demo).

  • How do I activate the product?
    After receiving your activation code, launch the product. Select the Activate option and select the activation method you wish to use. The defatult activation method is over the Internet.

  • What if I don’t have an Internet connection?
    When you launch the product, you will see several options for activation. The option for Phone activation will allow you to activate via telephone. When you call TEKLYNX, you will need your challenge code and your activation code and you will need to be in front of the PC.

  • Can I freely uninstall the product and move it to another PC?
    No, The license is only valid for the registered PC. This means that you will need to decide which PC the software will be installed on before you activate.

  • What if the PC crashes or I need to transfer the license to another PC?
    To transfer a software key license, you must contact TEKLYNX and provide them with your activation code. Your TELKYNX representative will help you reactivate the product on the new PC.

  • What happens if I uninstall the software key version by accident and need to reinstall on the same PC?
    If you have not formatted your hard drive the software will function properly without needing to reactivate.

  • What happens if I lose my activation code?
    You will need to provide TEKLYNX with your Serial Number to retreive your activation code. Your serial number is on your invoice or the on the box.

  • Is there a software key evaluation version?
    Yes. To use the evalutaion or demo version you will to select the Try option when you launch the software. Evaluation periods are limited to 30 Days or a maximum of 100 Executions of the software.

  • Can I upgrade an evaluation installation into a full license?
    When purchasing the software you will receive a code that can be used to activate the full version.
