How can I attach two or more fields together and still get the spacing I want in LABELVIEW?
In this tutorial we will create a label that includes a company name, individual name, city and state from an address list. We will use features from LABELVIEW to avoid spacing problems that occur when using separate text fields to show the data.
  1. Open LABELVIEW and create a new label. Create a new text field and select a database data source. In this example we will use dBase.

  2. Select the name of the database file that contains the information you want to put on the label. In this example, we will use mail_list.dbf. If you would like to use the file, click the filename to download it and save the file in C:\LVWIN70\DBF\ on your PC.

  3. Select the Print Field, Key Field, and Prompt for your first database field. Click OK when you are finished and drop the field on your label.

  4. Create a new text field. Select dBase for the data source and the database name you used in step 3.

  5. Switch to the Options tab. Change the drop-down box next to Hidden from No to Yes. Click OK and drop the field on your label. On the label, the field will appear red to signify that it is hidden. Repeat this process for all the database fields you wish to combine.

  6. Once all of the hidden fields are created, create a new text field. For the Data Source, select Linked.

  7. In the Linked Fields box, type the object name of the first field you wish to appear followed by a plus sign (+).

  8. To add a space, place a quotation mark followed by a space and another quotation mark and another plus sign (+). In fact, you can put anything you want inside the quotes and it will print just that way on the label. In the example below, we added comma before the space to separate the city field from the state field in the database.

  9. Now add the object name of the other text field you wish to add after the space or spaces you added. Click OK and drop the field on the label.

  10. Create another Text field. Select Linked for the data source type. On the Linked Fields box, enter quotation marks, Attn: and quotation marks followed by a +. Then add the object name of the Name field from the mailing list. Click OK when you are finished and drop the field on the label.

  11. Your label should look something like the one pictured below. The hidden fields, shown in red, will not print so you can put them anywhere you like on the label. Congratulations! You have completed this tutorial.
