LABEL MATRIX
Can I download label formats (using IVR) to Datamax H-Class Printers?
Yes. Datamax H-Class printers support a feature called Internal Variable Replacement (IVR) that allows a label to be stored in the printer memory. When the label is recalled from memory the printer’s graphical display prompts the operator to enter information for any variable fields on the label.

Using LABEL MATRIX' Job Modifier feature (a utility that allows the operator to directly modify the printer code for a label) you can easily print labels to Datamax H-Class printers, following these three steps:

Step 1: Design Your Label
Using a TEKLYNX label designer, design your label according to the following requirements:
  • When creating your label in the label design software, be sure to select a TEKLYNX high speed printer driver. To ensure that you are using the newest driver available, you can download the latest drivers for no charge at http://www.teklynx.com/products/labels/driver_select.html.

  • Add the desired text and bar code fields to the label using Printer Resident Fonts (vs. using TrueType Fonts).

  • For each variable field you add to the label, enter the value with static/constant information and use the “&” character as a flag at the beginning and end of the data string. For example: &Enter_Address&.

  • If designing in CODESOFT Enterprise, in order to create a Job Modifier output file (.jms file), you must use Print Spooling vs. Direct Access printing (i.e., in the printer setup, make sure the Direct access option is disabled).

Step 2: Set Up Your Job Modifier Script
To access the Job Modifier utility in each of the TEKLYNX label design programs, use the following steps.
  • LABEL MATRIX: Go to File menu > Label Properties > Job Modifier tab

  • LABELVIEW: Go to Edit menu > Label Setup > Job Modifier tab

  • CODESOFT: With Direct access printing disabled, go to File menu > Select Printer > Settings button > Job Modifier tab

Note: Additional information on Job Modifiers can be found in the online Help in your TEKLYNX label design software.

To create a Job Modifier script that will replace the printer’s End/Print command with a command to store the label format in the printer’s memory, the software searches for lines of printer code starting with the E command (the printer’s End/Print command) and replaces all occurrences with sDLABELNAME, where:
  • s is the ‘Store label in module’ printer command

  • D is the printer’s Memory Bank/Module ID for storing the label (can be A-D)

  • LABELNAME is the name of the label file

Sample Job Modifier:

line_starting_with(“E”) : replace(“E”,”sDLABELNAME”)

Step 3: Print Your Labels
When printing to a Datamax H-Class printer that supports the IVR feature, the large graphical display on the printer will prompt the operator for variable information. The operator can then input the information using the printer’s control panel or via a USB keyboard connected directly to the printer. The printer will process the received data and print the labels.
